Tonight I got to see Fury, and I thought a pretty good movie. I appreciated a good WWII film and wasn’t sure it was gonna turn out in the end! The film takes place towards the end of WWII and a small battalion of 5 soldiers to take down Nazis in a war tank called Fury
Brad Pitt had a pretty busy year last year from winning an Oscar for best Picture plus being in four films as well and I thought he did a good job as The Sargent Don ‘Wardaddy’ Coller. I was a little worried of Pitt having an Aldo Raine quality to the role, but luckily this was different and didn’t tarnish Quentin’s role in Inglorious Basterds, it was much more serious and he led his troops to battle. Jon Bernthal played a similar role to Shane from Walking Dead, I did think he was good though! I liked Shia Lebeaouf as the religious saint soldier in the film. Michael Peña and Logan Lerman both were decent in the film! (Lerman played the rookie soldier for the battalion It was strange seeing Jason Isaacs with an American accent but he did a fine job.
This was the first David Ayer’s film I had seen of his and I can see the similar quality he has done for his other films. He has very violent scenes and explicit dialogue in his films which seems to work for him! I think that this film had a lot of good battle scenes and I really liked his final battle with the whole last man standing aspect of the film! It wasn’t as powerful as Saving Private ryan and didn’t seem to be quite impactful as the other film was! I kinda called the ending of the film which seemed unfair for me to do but I did and I didn’t mind it! Their was a scene I really enjoyed when the small platoon had a rest and they all sat and had dinner at a German woman’s house with her cousin staying there and it seemed the only peaceful time in the movie away from the battle for about 15 minutes. I didn’t really like the new kid in the film, I thought he seemed kind of annoying and seemed to not fit in with the group. I did like the end of the film, but sad as well, it had a nice resolution
With the title of the post, I can agree to what I said, it wasn’t Brad’s masterpiece but it was a pretty good and violent picture! In my opinion his masterpiece was The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I think the cast was a fine group in the film and the action was pretty good to see. If you are a WWII fanatic and you enjoy a good action film then you will like this film!
