Here is the first photo of the cast in Now You See Me: The Second Act which will be out next year. I noticed that Jesse Esienberg has short hair this time around, I think he shaved his head for the Lex Luthor role in Batman V. Superman that will also debut next year as well. Joining this film are Lizzy Caplan and Daniel Radcliffe. Now I haven’t seen the film but I thought it would seem like an alright film. The film will see the return of Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Michael Caine and Morgan freeman. The film will be out next year June 10th. The trailer will be up once it appears online.
So, after a year of waiting to see Foxcatcher, I finally saw it and I thought it was a pretty great film but it was extremely heavy. I had read a little bit about the real story before seeing it, and had been wanting to see what this movie was going to be like and it made up to my expectations. It was directed by Bennett Miller who had immense critical success for directing Capote and Moneyball. This film is based on a true story of Freestyle Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz who went to train at Foxcatcher farm by John DuPont and was also being under his brother’s shadow Dave who was also an Olympic winner.
Let me just suggest to you, if you watch a light hearted film that starred Steve Carell, try to get that side of him out of your head for this film. I thought he was pretty good in the film, it is the complete opposite of his previous roles and I think it moved away from his Michael Scott persona. I think his take on DuPont was really intense and I thought he led it with such creepiness and he had subtle psychotic about him. Channing Tatum played Mark Schultz and I thought he was good but there was just this something about him that just didn’t strike with me. I told my friend, in some way he kinda looked like a gorilla in the film but I did think he was good as the character. Mark Ruffalo was really good in the film as Dave Schultz and was probably even better then Channing. I thought that the brother relationship was really interesting to watch and I thought that those two genuinely cared for each other. I wished I saw Sienna Miller as Dave’s wife Nancy more in the film since she was a part of his life. Vanessa Redgrave did a good job as the disapproval mother for John, I thought she was really great and it was kinda hard to see her not being supportive of her son. I would just like to say, it is weird seeing Anthony Michael Hall in a film because in my opinion he’ll always be that geeky kid in The Breakfast Club but I thought he did a fine job in this film
The movie did a good job at this intense stillness throughout the entire film. The intensity of how Mark Schultz was trying to find his own identity and he thought he found it under John but he was too damaged to have that work. The reason it wouldn’t have worked because John had his own problems and I don’t think he was a good support system for Mark because of his own issues with his mother and his ego, he drove Mark to this depression where Mark would just beat himself up literally and figuratively because he didn’t want to be under his brother’s shadow but yet he needed his brother to help him out. I liked that Mark and Channing wrestled in the film, it seems they really beat the hell out of each other. For half of the film, I felt like that there was this gun that was just pressed against my head, and all I was waiting for was to see what happens next. Now I hope that doesn’t offend people or alarm anyone, I just meant that there was this intensity throughout this movie that made it hard to watch and there was uncertainty of what would happen next. To the people who know the true story, I was curious to see how a major event was going to play out on film and I knew what was coming and I was kinda shocked on how quick it happened but it worked and it was interesting.
I wanna give praise to Bennett Miller in directing this film, he has a real sense in keeping his films to a subtlely intense quality when he directs and I think it works for him. The film and its acting is being nominated this upcoming award season and for good reason, I think both Mark Ruffalo and Steve Carell have a good chance to be in those categories and maybe they could win this year. We shall see how they do at the awards when they air
The film is really good but it is a really heavy story so when you see the movie it should affect you. I hope you get a chance to see this film because it has great acting, an intense story and Bennett miller did a great job directing this story that needed to be told. Please go see Foxcatcher, you won’t be disappointed!
